How do you draw your pet portraits?
All of my pet portraits are hand drawn using pastel pencils. I use Faber Castell Pitt pastel pencils. I use the high quality dark grey Clairfontaine pastel mat , a pastel Artists favourite. I use your photos of your pet for reference to help create your portraits likeness. I use a loose style with my pastels I don't capture all details. I like to create a more arty final portrait look. Good quality photos will result in the best outcome.
Does photo quality matter? If so, how do I take good pictures of my pet?
Better reference photos do help me capture your pets likeness and personality.
-
Shoot from your pet’s eye level by sitting or lying on the floor. Try not to take the photo from above your pet as such photos are often disappointing.
-
Use natural lighting, either outside or indoors by the light of a nearby window. Avoid flash.
-
Get close to your pet and focus on their eyes.
-
Be patient. Have someone attract your pet’s attention behind you while you shoot or hold a treat in your hand close to the camera. Try making a high pitched tone or whistle to get your pet in an alert pose.
If I want more than one pet on the same canvas, do they need to be in the same picture together?
Not at all. Just send me your favourite photos of all your pets you’d like to include and I can combine them in the artwork so that they’re all in the same piece.
Do you offer framing for your pet portraits?
I do not offer framing. I feel you choosing your own frame from a shop or getting your portrait professionally frame is your personal choice. Also sending glass in the post is to risky for me.

What payment Methods do you accept?
I only accept Bank transfer. I will send my bank details on completion of your portrait to then make full payment. I have had problems with paypal etc in the past so this is my preferred method.

Can I request changes to the pet painting after I see the digital proof?
Yes, small reasonable alterations can be requested to the drawing until you are 100% satisfied at no charge. I want you to be happy! If you are not happy at all with the outcome you do not need to make any payment.
